What kind of diving duck is that?
Wrong... Not a diving duck! The zoom revealed a River Otter!
I snapped a few photos of what I believed was a solitary otter however I was likely wrong again. This photo zoom captured another creature in the background. Perhaps it's just a fish jumping. Further photo inspection did reveal more than one ripple track.
The otter headed toward the South end of the lake out of my view. I entertained myself by taking photos of fish ripple /tree reflections.
A while later I glanced out and noticed a strong ripple line near the shore headed my direction from the left. Triathletes? No, a bunch of river otter swimming toward my dock!
They were challenging for me to catch in the zoom so close but at least I got a few decent photos my plants...
I did capture a few shots as they met an impasse in the reeds-
One climbed up on the neighbor's little boat! What is up with that little boat and wildlife?
But all four river otter made it around the obstacles.
A quick Internet search of Lontra canadensis helped define this social otter group. They were likely a mother and 3 young. Eventually the young will head off on their own.
They are a good indicator of non-polluted water & don't worry I saw plenty of fish jumping after their fishing trip... so they didn't eat up all the trout!
